Spring Revolution Daily News for 16 July 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In a report to the United Nations, it was mentioned that the junta armed forces in Myanmar had been using sexual harassment including rape as a military strategy and political oppression. Myanmar’s Permanent Representative U Kyaw Moe Tun called on the UN Security Council to take more serious action against the military junta. 
  • On Friday, the NUG stated that it was not believable or acceptable at all regarding the meeting between the Foreign Minister of Thailand and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. 
  • According to Yangon-based Canadian Embassy, there was a meeting between the Foreign Ministry of Canada and Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG. 
  • On 12 July, Ministry of International Cooperations-NUG released a statement, calling on democratic nations to take effective action over the deteriorating conflict in Myanmar. 
  • On Friday, Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) conducted their regular coordination meeting. Reportedly, Ministry of Federal Affairs presented about their activities and action plans. 
  • Ministry of Defence-NUG released photos in which the members of Royal Peacock Column under the People’s Defence Forces competed in a boxing match. 
  • According to the PVTV Media, a business person donated 2100 lakh MMK for the PDFs and ethnic revolution forces. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The US Secretary of State stated that the ASEAN and the US must put pressure on Myanmar’s junta army to give up arms and go back to the path of democracy. 
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe with strong determination marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • On Thursday, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched for the end of the military dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • In Chaung-U Township, the junta army shot dead two men on a motorbike in Ywar Thar Aye Village at about 7:00 am Saturday. 
  • In Taze Township, there was a battle between the junta army and a combined force of PDFs near Thabyayyin Village at about 3:00 am Saturday. Reportedly, the military junta conducted an attack via Mi-35 helicopter. 
  • In Wetlet Township, the junta armed forces set fire to the public’s houses in Shein Magar Village on Friday night. 
  • In Saw Township of Magwe Region, the junta army fired inflammable bombs and mortars into Yinte Village on Friday. Reportedly, almost the whole village was burnt down to ashes and around 20 local people were arrested by the junta soldiers. 
  • In Pakkoku Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on a military car and the junta soldiers on secret patrol at about 9:00 am Saturday. 
  • In Mandalay Region, a supporter of the revolution and his mother were arrested in Myingyan on Thursday. Reportedly, 7 guns were confiscated as well in the raid into their house in Nyaung-U. 
  • In Nyaunglebin Township of Bago Region, there was a battle at about 2:00 pm Friday. Reportedly, there were many casualties among junta soldiers including an officer. 
  • No. (1) Alliance of the Revolution Forces in Thatone District announced that they had nothing to do with the destruction of No. (1/13) Bridge on the Yangon-Thatone-Phaang Road. 
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, a member of local PDF lost a leg in a mine incident on 12 July. 
  • In Lashio of Shan North, there was a bomb explosion at Zwe Htet Gold and Jewelry shop on Saturday morning. Reportedly, 12 staff members were injured. 
  • For the children of the displaced people in the upcountry, the S&C conducted a football match for the rainy season. 
  • After the junta army killed a world-renowned boxer Too Too, a famous Canadian boxer Deiwa posted on social media that it was important for the world to know the instability in Myanmar. 
  • According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, up to 3793 people have lost their lives due to the junta armed forces until 14 July. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • In Muu Township under Karen National Union, the junta army raided Yedwingyigone Village, killed a person and destroyed 76 houses. 
  • In the areas under the KNU in Kayin State, the junta armed forces have been firing mortars. According to Karen Human Rights Group, the number of casualties has increased among civilians. 
  • At about 10:30 pm Friday, the junta army shot heavy artillery into Laiza, the Headquarters of Kachin Independence Army (KIA). 
  • In Kanpetlet of Chin State, a combined force of CDFs attacked the junta army on Thursday. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers. 

The Military Council 

  • In Naypyidaw, the family members of the junta armed forces planted trees near Yezin Dam for the second time in the rainy season on Friday. Present on the occasion was the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing. 
  • On Friday, the junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement that they were upset with some points related to Myanmar contained in the joint statement of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Indonesia and they sharply objected to them. 
  • The junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs objected to the reference to the United Nations Security Council and the International Criminal Court contained in the reports and decisions from the 53rd Session of the UN Human Rights Council from 19 June to 14 July. 
  • The junta Union Election Commission approved the registration for the New National Democracy Party and the National Development Party. 
  • The military junta declared 17 townships in Rakhine State as disaster-hit areas for the second time from 15 July to 14 September. 
  • The junta Central Bank announced that there would be money changing counters in Yangon, Mandalay and Naypyidaw to reduce old money notes among the public. 
  • In the meeting with the junta Immigration Minister, the regional coordinator of the UNFPA discussed that they would provide technical support and related equipment for the population statistics. 

Summary on 16 July 

  • Due to frequent sanctions of the UN and the international community, the military junta might have to face more international pressure. 
  • Throughout the country, the anti-junta revolution has gained momentum, causing a great loss among junta soldiers.
