Spring Revolution Daily News for 15 October 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Myanmar’s Permanent Representative U Kyaw Moe Tun pointed out that the United Nations failed to take effective action against Myanmar’s junta army and it was like allowing them indirectly to continue ill-treating Myanmar people. 
  • On Saturday, the NUG sent a statement to the 35th anniversary of the founding of Democratic Party for a New Society. 
  • In the congratulatory statement by the National Unity Consultative Council, it was mentioned that Democratic Party for a New Society had been established with a focus on human rights and democracy. They have also been on the right path for 35 years and they have been an honourable party taking part in the public’s revolution. 
  • In the monthly speech to the public, Acting President of the NUG claimed that the military junta was just a gang of terrorists and thus, they did not have the authority to celebrate the anniversary of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement. 
  • In Melbourne of Australia, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Union Minister of Education and Health-NUG, and Dr. Tun Aung Shwe, the NUG’s Representative to Australia, met with Myanmar health community and presented to them about Myanmar’s Spring Revolution. 
  • The Acting President of the NUG stated that it was the final battle for the dictatorship not to be able to rear its head. 

Revolution Activities 

  • The revolution forces called on responsible personnel including the NUG to take serious action against sexual violence and harassment in the Spring Revolution. 
  • In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region, there was a bomb attack at the Mighty Beer Shop at 7:25 pm Friday. 
  • In Htigyaint Township of Sagaing Region, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and local PDF near Pyinsu Village. Reportedly, the military junta conducted an air strike via fighter jet. 
  • In Taungtha of Mandalay Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta Township Administration Office where there was a meeting. Reportedly, the junta administrator and the junta police officer got injured. 
  • Even amidst tight security in Mandalay, there was a protest against the junta’s aerial attack on the IDP Camp in Mone Lai Khat. 
  • In Kachin State, the fighting resumed between the junta army and Kachin Independence Army on Myitgyina-Hpakant Road on Saturday morning. 
  • Thanks to the contribution of donors, the S&C provided rice to 250 displaced people from Mone Lai Khat IDP Camp in Laiza of Kachin State. 
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, the junta army invaded Yelegyun Area and set fire to 3 local villages. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • Karenni Nationalities Defence Force B (14) celebrated their two-year anniversary. 
  • The military junta has been arranging to celebrate the 8th anniversary of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement. Regarding it, the Karen National Union stated that they would not join the event. 
  • The KNU (Central) announced on Saturday that there were over 700,000 displaced people in 6 districts under their control. 
  • In Duplaya District under the KNU Brigade (6), there were about 50 battles against the junta army in September. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers including officers. 
  • On Friday, there were battles between the Ta’ang National Liberation Army and the junta army in five places. 
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, the junta army fired heavy artillery, killing a child aged 1 and injured 3 people. 
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, there was a rally in support of the KIA, PDF and NUG. They also protested against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Maryland in the United States, the Myanmar community carried out a protest in front of the residence of Aung Thurain, the junta’s consul to the US. 

The Military Council 

  • The junta’s Union Civil Service Board announced the list of government employees in substitute for the CDM ones. 
  • In Pathein of Ayeyarwady Region, the fuel shops do not have enough fuel and thus, they have to sell it with a limit. They also have to suspend their sale when they run out of fuel oil. 
  • From 8:00 pm to 11:57 pm on Friday, the junta army shot mortars into Mone Lai Khat Village. 
  • The junta’s committee on fuel oil was re-established with 8 members led by the Deputy Minister of Energy. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Economics and Commerce, overseas workers including sailors would be allowed to import an electric car every year if they send 200,000USD at home within a year. 
  • Some ethnic armed organizations have been in Naypyidaw to attend the 8th anniversary of the NCA. 

Summary on 15 October 

  • The military junta has been badly in need of foreign currency. They have been persuading overseas workers with incentives in order to gain income from taxation. However, most migrant workers are not interested in it. On the other hand, a black market might appear. 
  • Despite the junta’s announcement that some EAOs would join the event of the NCA, powerful ones will not do it. In other words, the ceremony of the military junta will not be viewed as legitimate.
