The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG announced that they had blacklisted and dismissed 144 staff members of Internal Revenue Department for conducting a variety of oppression and collecting taxes by force for the operation of the military junta.
  • In the statement to 59th Revolution Day of PSLF/ TNLA, Ministry of Defence-NUG stated that all the people, including Ta’ang (Palaung) ethnic ones, could clear away the military dictatorship and reach the destination of a federal democratic union in the near future by building national unity and joining hands in the fight.

Revolution Activities

  • On Wednesday, Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted a night protest against the military dictatorship, with anti-junta signs - ‘Fight together with Karenni people. Drive away Fascist dogs’.
  • In Pyin Oo Lwin of Mandalay Region, the Maymyo General Strike carried out an anti-junta movement on Thursday morning, releasing air balloons with the text ‘Downfall of the military dictatorship’.
  • Kyaukse District Defense Force-KDDF announced that two members of the junta Air Defence Force in Tada-U Township had been shot and one of them had died.
  • In Aungmye Thazan Township, there was a bomb explosion near administration office of Nyaungkweyat Ward on Thursday morning. After that, the junta army opened fire, killing a civilian and leaving 3 others injured.
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, Sonechaung villagers conducted a dawn march against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • · In Kani Township, the junta army was attacked with mines by DRPA in 4 different places at about 9:40 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, there was a clash between the two sides and the military junta lost many soldiers.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Thursday morning.
  • As a 309-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of local people, protected by PDF members, protested against the military dictatorship on Thursday.
  • In Tigyaint Township, the junta army dropped bombs via 3 fighter jets at about 9:30 am Thursday.
  • As a 340-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship and in memory of those who had lost lives due to the military junta, including 11 people from Matupi.
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, the junta armed forces set fire to public’s houses in Yelekyung Hlekoat village on Wednesday morning.
  • In Yesagyo Township, the house of YLK guerrilla leader in Yelekyung village was burnt to ashes by the junta army.
  • In Alone Township of Yangon Region, two buses of YBS 56 from Omni Focus Company, owned by the grandsons of former dictator Ne Win, were blown up by STA on Thursday morning.
  • According to local residents, the junta armed forces beat and arrested no less than 16 people in North Okkalapa, Shwe Paukkan, Dagon Myothit Seikkam and Yuzana Garden City.
  • At the time with the news that the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing would come to Dawei on Thursday, basic education students’ union and youth in Longlone Township conducted a dawn strike against the military dictatorship.
  • In Yebyu Township, local PDF shot dead a man from Taingyi village, allegedly an informer to the junta and USDP member, on Wednesday evening.
  • In Loikaw of Karenni State, a Catholic Church in Daw-U-Ku Ward was damaged due to an air strike by the junta army on Wednesday.
  • In Matupi Township of Chin State, trucks could not enter the area due to ongoing battles and thus, local people ran out of food.
  • In Dawei Township, the junta army arrested a man at his house in Painedaw Ward on Wednesday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Myawaddy Township of Kayin State, a combined force of the junta army and BGF conducted a heavy invasive attack at DKBA Bosalone Camp at about 5:00 pm Wednesday.
  • KNLA warned the junta BGF that they would have to fight against BGF members anywhere in Mutraw (Phapun) District under the control of KNU Regiment (5) if BGF continued to support the military junta for military control in the area.
  • Starting from Thursday morning, the junta armed forces shot mortars and invaded Halulay village in the area under the KNU Regiment (6). Consequently, there was heavy fighting between them and a combined force of local KNLA.
  • In Matupi of Chin State, local CDF announced that 2 junta soldiers had died due to sniper’s fire.
  • According to Mindat Township Public Administration, a military convoy of 83 trucks and 2 armoured vehicles burnt the trees including in Kawnu Thome Nature Reserve.
  • Ban Swee Lyan, a sergeant of Chin National Army, lost his life due to a mine accident on Wednesday and his funeral was conducted in the afternoon.
  • On Wednesday, there was a battle near Loikaw prison in Karenni State. Due to an air strike by the junta army, there was damage in the prison, according to KDF.

The Military Council

  • According to Malaysian Foreign Minister, ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which was to be held on 18 and 19 January and which would also be joined by the junta foreign minister Wunna Mg Lwin, was postponed for unlimited days.
  • According to the junta media, 6 men conducted a threatening act with guns while PACT Myanmar, a micro-finance company, was collecting loans in Ywangan Township of Shan South. They then robbed money worth 40 lakh MMK.
  • The junta media said that PDF had arrested a staff member of the education department, 3 staff members of other departments and their 2 family members in some townships of Magwe and Sagaing regions.
  • For migrant workers without identification documents in Thailand, 5 camps have been opened in some Thai districts for extension of the Certificate of Identity (CI), starting from 10 January. So far, CI documents have been issued to a total of 783 people; 426 men and 357 women.
  • In the junta media, the military junta donated 6 million Baht to Sagaing Tipidaka Sayardaw, who has been receiving medical treatment at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok of Thailand.

Summary on 13 January

  • Due to invitation of the military junta, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen came to Myanmar. However, no results came out from their statements. It seemed as if the junta leaders expected ASEAN approval just by the visit of Hun Sen. With the help of Cambodia, the junta foreign minister had planned to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. However, other member countries refused to join it for various reasons and thus, the meeting was shamefully put off.
  • In Karenni State, there were still heavy battles with air strikes by the junta army on a daily basis. In ground battles, the military junta had a great loss. As a large number of the junta armed forces invaded Chin State, there were battles against local CDFs every day and both sides lost members. However, there may be ongoing fighting as the junta armed forces keep going to their destination.
  • In Sagaing Region, administration by local PDF was brought to life and with public’s support, they won every guerrilla attack. As for some PDF members, they were arrested and killed. As the junta armed forces could not beat PDF, they committed war crimes by ill-treating the public.
  • As for Yangon and Mandalay, they had great momentum in guerrilla revolution. On the other hand, there were tight security measures again by the military junta. As there were cases of some young revolutionists being arrested, it is worth taking action with care in case of chain contact arrest.
