The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In cooperation with Pao National Federal Council, the NUG started the sale of bonds in the country and abroad.
  • The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) called on the public to shape Thingyan holidays as Revolution Thingyan and not to take part in the junta water festival.
  • Spring Lottery Family for CDM staff announced that the public could play their lottery during Thingyan holidays.

Revolution Activities

  • In Bahan Township of Yangon Region, the junta army shot at 3 delivery youth near Bo Sein Hman Ground at 9:30 am Wednesday, accusing them of setting a bomb there. Reportedly, a young man died and two others were arrested.
  • On Wednesday, the first day of Thingyan, there was no one playing water on the roads in Yangon.
  • In Mingaladone Township, there was a grenade attack on an administrator of Shwenatha Ward at about 10:00 am Wednesday while he was on his way to the pandal. Reportedly, he was injured.
  • On Wednesday morning, Sanchaung General Strike and Labor Alliance conducted a campaign against the bloody Thingyan of the military junta, saying that the public would happily celebrate the water festival only when their comrades in the jungle, CDM staff, political prisoners and IDPs gain success.
  • In Khayan Township, there were exchanges of fire between local PDFs and the junta army at Zweton Gate at about 11:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died.
  • In Thanlyin Township, local PDF conducted a grenade attack on a double cab of the military junta at about 2:00 pm Wednesday.
  • In Shwebo Township of Sagaing Region, a combined force of local PDFs conducted a bomb attack via drone on junta troops stationed in Zeephyugone Village on Wednesday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers were seriously injured.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • As a 430-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.
  • In Salingyi Township, members of Latbadaung Taung General Strike conducted a rice-ball protest against the military dictatorship on the first day of Thingyan.
  • At 11:00 am Wednesday, there was a bomb explosion on Martyrs’ Road in Monywa. Reportedly, a woman died.
  • On Wednesday morning, local PDF attacked a military car on patrol in Monywa. Reportedly, a member of the junta police force died.
  • According to Unity Force Monywa, PDFs conducted attacks with hand-made mines on 4 places where junta armed forces are stationed in Monywa on Wednesday.
  • According to Monywa Fighter Group, one of their members named Nga Kin aged 23 lost his life when a mine planted by junta troops exploded on Monday.
  • On Tuesday, Monywa-based PDFs called on the public not to take part in the junta water festival and to go out only for health matters.
  • In the north of Kalay, local PDF announced on Wednesday that the public were to take caution when using the Tahan-Latpanchaung Road as there was military tension in the area.
  • In Yinmabin District, local PDF attacked the junta army stationed in Bantbwe Village on Tuesday. Reportedly, no less than 5 junta soldiers died.
  • In Indaw Township, U Win Bo, who had reported to the military junta about revolutionaries in Pintint Village, was shot dead in his house at 5:00 pm Tuesday.
  • In Mandalay, there was no one playing water on the first day of Thingyan and the city was silent.
  • On Wednesday morning, the Mandalay Monks’ Union conducted an anti-junta movement.
  • In Sintku Township, a local PDF attacked the junta inspection gate at Yadana Thinka Bridge on Wednesday morning.
  • In Taungoo District, local PDF called on the public not to take part in the junta water festival.
  • In Myeik District of Taninthayi Region, PDF members conducted a movement for Revolution Thingyan.
  • In Longlone, local people protested against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, holding a banner against the junta water festival.
  • In Dike-U Township, local PDF conducted a warning explosion on the junta pandal at 3:00 pm Tuesday. Reportedly, the junta army arrested 2 people near the scene.
  • On Tuesday morning, a military convoy was attacked with mines by Bago District PDF on the expressway.
  • In Pauk Township of Magwe Region, the junta armed forces set fire to 2 villages, starting on Wednesday morning.
  • On Wednesday, Myaing Township Basic Education Strike Committee and local people marched against the junta water festival.
  • In Tilin Township, a powerful rally of villages, protected by Yaw PDF, protested against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • Reportedly, members of Maubin University Students’ Union would entertain the public in Thingyan from a liberated area.
  • In Myitkyina of Kachin State, the junta pandal for Walking Thingyan was on fire on Wednesday morning.
  • In Myitkyina, there was a bomb explosion at the back of the USDP office at 11:30 am Wednesday. Reportedly, a car was damaged.
  • In Myawaddy Township, local revolution forces announced on Tuesday that the public were not to go out during the junta water festival.
  • In Muse of Shan North, a local PDF conducted warning explosions against the junta pandal and the junta fire brigade on Tuesday night.
  • In Aungban of Shan South, Urban Guerrilla called on the public not to take part in the junta water festival.
  • In Ywangan Township, the junta army killed a civilian in a mine explosion and set fire to a house of another one on Tuesday.
  • According to the AAPP, 1745 people have been shot dead by the junta armed forces so far after the military coup.
  • The Canadian Embassy to Myanmar announced that their government would maintain their support for the people of Myanmar.
  • On Wednesday, the US Embassy in Myanmar called on regional partners to put pressure on the military junta for the arrival of humanitarian assistance to Myanmar without any restrictions and for the safety of social workers.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Myebone Township of Rakhine State, there was a fighting between the junta army and AA near Wetkaung Village on Wednesday afternoon.
  • ULA released 10 rules for the public in Rakhine State to be able to peacefully enjoy the water festival.
  • In Karen Township, there was a battle between the junta army and KNLA near Tawnaw Waterfall on Kawkarait-Myawaddy Asia Road, starting from Wednesday morning. Reportedly, 3 cars including a truck and a motorbike were on fire at Seikphoogone.
  • In Beelin Township under the control of KNU Brigade (1), a combined force of KNLA, KNDO and Black Warriors Force (PDF) attacked the junta army camp in Laykay Village at 6:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and 5 others were injured.
  • In Fruso Township of Karenni State, KNDF conducted an ambush on the junta army at 4:00 pm Tuesday. Reportedly, 3 military cars were damaged, 8 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • On Tuesday, KNDF Bo-3 warned the public not to take part in fun activities of the junta water festival and remember the sacrifices of Karenni people and armed forces.
  • ZFU/PDF Zoland expressed their sorrow for the public for the unhappy days in Thingyan and the new year period.
  • On Tuesday, CJDC announced that they had regarded the ZRO/ZRA as a terrorist that cooperates with the military junta in the fight against the Chin revolution forces and that they would fight against them.

The Military Council

  • On Wednesday morning, there was an opening ceremony at the junta Yangon Mayor Pandal. There was no one playing water there. However, there were some cars from the junta municipal department giving the impression people were enjoying the festival.
  • On Wednesday, U Soe Thein, junta-appointed chief minister of Yangon Region, and his team took part in the Walking Thingyan on Maha Bandula Park Road.
  • On Wednesday, the junta Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of International Cooperation celebrated the water festival in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • The military junta forced departmental staff to take part in the water festival without fail throughout the country.
  • According to the junta media, Chaungtha Beach and Ngapali Beach were crowded during the Thingyan holiday.
  • In Aungmye Thazan Township of Mandalay Region, there was an opening ceremony of Yadanabone Park on Wednesday morning.
  • In Boatpyin Township of Taninthayi Region, there was gunfire among junta soldiers due to an argument over money in Pyigyi Mandai on Tuesday night. Reportedly, a military officer was injured.
  • According to the junta media, publication certificates of 2 publishing houses were revoked for publishing a prohibited book by Shin Okkahta.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the number of trips by Cherry Ships running from Pansodan to Dala would be reduced during the Thingyan holiday.
  • The military junta in Yangon Region announced that Maha Bandula Road and Sule Road would be temporarily closed from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm during the Thingyan holiday.

Summary on 13 April

  • Despite their effort to take political advantage of the water festival, it was silence and no one played water in the junta Thingyan. Although the military junta tried to set up pandals of various designs to persuade the public, they did not succeed. Reportedly, Myanmar people were eager just to celebrate Revolution Thingyan.
  • On the first day of Thingyan, some cars of the military junta drove up and down in front of the Yangon Mayor Pandal every now and then as if there were many people enjoying the festival. As the junta media broadcast the scene, it became a funny joke among the public.
  • To show as if the country was stable, the military junta made an effort to celebrate the water festival. However, they did not suceed. On the first day of Thingyan, people did not take part in the festival throughout the country.
  • On the very first day of the junta water festival, revolution activities were in great momentum in urban and rural areas. As for revolution forces, they warned the public not to participate in the junta Thingyan.
