Spring Revolution Daily News for 13 August 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment-NUG presented via video conferencing to Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) on Friday their ongoing activities and action plans of the Spring Development Bank. 
  • According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, there was a mine attack on 25 soldiers between Magyisu Village and Ywar Tharyar Village in Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region at 12:30 pm on 8 August. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died. 
  • The Military Headquarters under Ministry of Defence-NUG announced that a combined force of PDFs had attacked Nyaungbintha Police Station in Phyuu Township of Bago Region. 
  • According to Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG, the revolution forces managed to clear off 86 junta members carrying out violence against the public, on 10 August. 
  • For preventive measures against sexual harassment of children, there was a meeting on Friday between the Ministry of Education-NUG and Ministry of Women, Youth and Children-NUG. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In the southern part of Kalay Township in Sagaing Region, the junta army set fire to Satkant Village on Saturday. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe led an anti-junta march on Saturday. 
  • In Shwebo Township, there was an attack on the camp of Pyusawti in Gadoeseik Village at about 6:00 am Friday. Reportedly, a Pyusawti member was caught alive and their houses were burnt down. 
  • In the northern part of Sagaing Township, the junta army conducted an air strike via fighter jet on Kan-Oo Monastery in Talaing Village on Friday. Reportedly, a monk, an infant aged 8 months and two women lost their lives. 
  • In Shwebo, there was a mine attack on the junta armed forces which had opened gunfire on their way out. Reportedly, 3 junta policemen died and a junta captain was injured. 
  • In Kani Township, there were four battles on Thursday. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died whereas a PDF commander his lost life. 
  • The captain of Myanmar Royal Dragon Army stated that they would take out their four forces from the Ministry of Defence and they would operate exclusively. 
  • According to Butalin Township PDF, they would take action against the junta supervisor and staff of local fire brigade under the anti-terrorism law. 
  • In Yangon, a combined rally of Burmese Students’ Union and North Dagon Oppressed People’s Strike Coalition conducted an anti-junta movement on Saturday. 
  • In Nyaunglebin Township of Bago Region, Aung Ko Ko Naing, a junta sergeant from Madaunk Police Station, was arrested somewhere on Shwekyin-Nyaunglebin Road. 
  • In Kyaukdagar Township, the junta army, which had had a great loss in the battle in Thamin Ingone Village, conducted an air strike on the village on Saturday morning. 
  • In Phyuu Township, the junta army raided and set fire to Outkyarin Village on 8 and 9 August. Reportedly, 7 people lost their lives and over 30 houses were burnt down. 
  • In Yebyu Township of Taninthayi Region, the junta army has arrested over 30 locals as human shields in Nabule Area since 8 August. Afterwards, they have been invading the area. 
  • In Kachin State, a rally of Hpa-Kant Township carried out a movement against all forms of dictatorship on Saturday. 
  • From 25 July to 31 August, Ma Khin Hnin Kyi Thar and OFP Fund-raisers have conducted a campaign with raffle tickets to provide financial support to four revolution forces from the upcountry region. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • On the 73rd Karen National Martyrs’ Day on Saturday, the Chair of Karen National Union (KNU) stated that they would join hands with other ethnic revolution forces, democratic groups and civil society organizations to put an end to the military dictatorship. 
  • In an exclusive interview, a member of the KNU CEC stated that they would establish Kawthoolei Federal State with self-determination and self-administration within four years to come. 
  • An officer of Karen National Liberation Army claimed that the military junta was not in the position to conduct invasive attacks, just defensive ones. 
  • On Saturday, the members of the Southern Military Region KNLA (201) conducted an event on Karen National Martyrs’ Day. 
  • In Nyaunglebin District under the KNU Brigade 3, there were 96 battles in July. Reportedly, 166 junta soldiers including officers died and 143 others were injured. 
  • After the battle in Falam of Chin State, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing on Ramtalo Village at about 1:00 am Saturday. According to the spokesperson of the CNDF, 7 local people got injured. 
  • In local battles in Phasaung and Demoso townships of Karenni State, the weapons of junta soldiers were confiscated and they were shown in pictures on the social media pages of the revolutionists. 

The Military Council 

  • On Friday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing told the community leaders in Pathein that they would upgrade Pathein Airport so that international flights could land there. 
  • The junta Union Election Commission stated that they had approved of the registration of Kumi National Party based in Paletwa. 
  • According to the junta Myanmar Embassy in London, Myanmar children aged 5 by 31 May 2023, who have been in Britain, Sweden, Denmark and Ireland, can apply for basic education programme of the 2023-24 academic year. 
  • The junta Yangon City Development Committee announced that they would demolish Thiri Mingalar Old Market in Kyimyindine Township and sell it. 
  • The junta Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation issued warnings to prevent fish lakes from flooding due to heavy rain and rising level of rivers. 

Summary on 12 August 

  • Wherever he goes, the junta leader tends to say big things. However, in reality, he has been just selling the markets and land for his own self-interest. 
  • The international community has placed sanctions on the junta businesses and banks. Consequently, the country has been in an economic crisis with constant depreciation and high cost of living.
