The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • Ministry of Human Rights-NUG announced that with the steps to collect more charges in public telecommunication, the military junta was creating the situation like with the mobile Sim cards with very high prices in the tenure of previous dictators and the use by only privileged people. It was also a form of modern human rights violation by restricting information and internet freedom of the public in their daily lives.
  • In the 4th month after the NUG declared a state of emergency, 2377 members of the junta armed forces died and 605 others were injured.
  • According to the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 102 members of the junta armed forces had died, 36 others had been injured and 4 others had been caught alive.
  • Ministry of Human Rights-NUG announced that the public had to rely on the internet and social media to get access to local and international news in a timely manner. At such time, the military junta increased internet fees, which could cause a decrease in internet use. In that way, they tried to intentionally restrict public’s access to the right information.
  • Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Minister of Health and Education-NUG, said that there were not enough weapons for PDF members as there were millions of them. There would come a time for them to be equipped with arms.

Revolution Activities

  • According to Chinland Defense Force - Kalay Kabaw Gangaw, Captain Kaung Thu Win, a graduate of Defence Service Academy batch (52), and his family joined the CDF, together with weapons.
  • On Sunday and Monday, Ko Than Kyaw Oo, a leader of Monywa General Strike Committee, went to the villages in Pale Township and conducted public talks against the military dictatorship.
  • In a village of Dibeyin Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Monday, with anti-junta signs - ‘No need to discuss for bloody debt’.
  • On Monday morning, three junta army helicopters came to Ohnnaut village in Pale Township and fired ammunition, assuming that Bo Nagar or Captain Dragon, a leader of Pale’s revolution, had been staying there. According to local residents and PDFs, he was in a safe place.
  • In Ayadaw Township, the local general strike committee fired 7 gunshots on Monday morning in memory of comrade Shein Htet Aung, who had been shot dead in the head in the area 9 months ago.
  • As a 306-day protest, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march against the military dictatorship on Monday morning.
  • In Kantbalu Township, a MyTel telecom tower had been blown up between Chinmyitgyin village and Tinkotegyi village. Reportedly, a military convey was attacked with mines five times on the way there and many junta soldiers died. According to KANBALU UNDERGROUND WARRIORS, the junta army shot dead a mentally-ill person at the scene of explosion.
  • As a 337-day protest, Kalay General Strike marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • According to a representative of Pale Jokers PDF, they managed to test-produce frontline mortars successfully.
  • In Pha-Ang Township of Kayin State, an inspection gate was shot at on Monday. Reportedly, two police members and a BGF member died.
  • At about 11:40 am Monday, there was an explosion near No. (1) high school in Tupayone Ward of Thaketa Township. According to local residents, the junta armed forces tend to be on patrol there every now and then. After the explosion, junta soldiers arrived there and made an inspection.
  • At 4:58 pm Sunday, YRG and FRT (Yangon) opened fire into the Ward (22) administration office in South Dagon while junta-appointed administration team was having a meeting. Reportedly, a member of the ward administration died and some others were injured.
  • At about 7:15 pm Sunday, a motorbike with two young people exploded in Ward (71) of South Dagon Myothit Township. Reportedly, one of them died and another one was injured. In addition, a man near the motorbike was injured.
  • On Sunday night, Urban Guerrilla Force intended to conduct attacks at the junta army at three locations in North Okkalapa Township. However, they just made a warning attack due to the circumstances.
  • In Magwe Region, Myaing Township Basic Education Committee, in cooperation with the public, expressed their desire against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Matupi Township of Chin State, the junta armed forces used 11 local people, including a reporter and a 13-year old child, as guides and human shields. According to local people and organizations, they then killed them on the way.
  • According to a volunteer, the junta armed forces inspected those who had run away from battles in Loikaw of Karenni State at Aungpan-Pinlong divergent point starting from 3:00 pm Monday.
  • According to Pulaw Township PDF, the military junta lost 5 members, including a sergeant, in fighting in the area. Reportedly, some weapons were also confiscated.
  • In Ayeyarwaddy Region, local administrators, under the instruction of the agricultural bank managers, threatened farmers that their farm permit Form (7) would be confiscated if they did not repay their bank loans.
  • In Pathein, the junta police arrested two young people, who had been medical volunteers in protests against the military dictatorship, on 7th January.
  • On Monday morning, a bomb was thrown at the house of an alleged junta informer in Mandalay. After the incident, the junta armed forces came there for inspection and they were attacked with mines. Reportedly, there were casualties.
  • Ethnic Armed Organizations
  • In Kawkarait Township of Kayin State, the junta army fired ammunitions using two military helicopters.
  • At about 9:30 pm Sunday, the junta army shot mortars wildly towards the Karenni Forces in Loikaw of Karenni State.

The Military Council

  • The junta leader said that Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) was not to get distracted from the path of peace due to various reasons.
  • In a press conference, Cambodian foreign minister said that on behalf of Australia, Hun Sen called on the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing to release Prof. Sean Turnell.
  • In Laykaykaw and Metawthale of Kayin State under control of KNU Regiment (6), the junta armed forces have been breaking into public’s houses and taking away valuable things, including cars and motorbikes, on a daily basis.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that due to ongoing armed conflicts in Kachin State, beautiful natural scenery could not be fully enjoyed and rich natural resources could not be effectively used for the development of the state.
  • Reportedly, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi was sentenced to another 4 years in prison at the junta special court on Monday.
  • According to the junta media, western regional officer of the junta army and other responsible personnel inspected agriculture and livestock of local-based army in Kyaukphyu of Rakhine State and fulfilled the requirements for full productivity.
  • The military junta announced that explosives had been found in a garbage pile in front of Technological University in Insein Township of Yangon Region on Sunday morning.
  • According to the junta fire department, their special rescue team did an exercise on Sunday with a model building similar to the one which had been collapsed in Alone Township due to an earthquake.
  • According to the junta newspaper, an unknown man died on Sunday morning while he was setting a hand-made mine in front of Tatgone Township municipal office.
  • At about 5:00 am Monday, there was a fire at the junta police station in Pyigyi Dagun Township of Mandalay.

Summary on 10 January

  • In Chin State, the junta armed forces killed 11 local people, including a reporter and a child, after using them as guides and human shields. It was another mass murder after the case in Karenni State. It is high time for international community to take action against the military junta with such violence targeting civilians at a time of their loss.
  • In Sagaing Region, the junta army with a great loss ill-treated and killed local residents. They even had to use helicopters and a large number of armed forces to find a local PDF led by Captain Dragon. In terms of public support, determination and qualifications, junta soldiers could not compete with PDFs and faced a great loss in reality.
  • Despite oppression in Yangon, Mandalay, Magwe, Ayeyarwaddy and Taninthayi, their guerrilla revolution gained great momentum.
  • Due to attacks by a large number of the junta armed forces, many of Loikaw residents had to run away. The public found it disgusting as junta soldiers inspected and asked for money by force from those IDPs on the way.
