Spring Revolution Daily News for 1 May 2022

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation-NUG announced that a discussion themed ‘Is it necessary to carry out environmental conservation in the revolution period?’ would be organized at 7:00 pm on 8 May. 
  • In commemoration of International Workers’ Day (May Day) on 1 May, Ministry of Labour-NUG would organize a ceremony in two sessions; May Day Celebration and a discussion themed ‘Revolutionary force of workers for Spring power’.
  • On 27 April, there was the 5 th meeting between the team led by Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG and Japanese Members of Parliament Union via video conferencing. 

Revolution Activities

  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, local people marched for the KIA, PDF and NUG. They also protested against the military dictatorship.
  • Under the instruction of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, there have been recruitment activities in wards and townships for so-called people’s security forces. Reportedly, the formation got started in some places.
  • On Saturday, youth from Monywa Township Students Union hung an anti-junta banner near the sign post of Monywa Industrial Zone.
  • In Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army raided Tabinkaung (South) Village for the second time at 8:55 am Saturday and set fire to houses. Consequently, the whole village had to run away. 
  • In Shwebo Township, a rally of villagers marched for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • As a 416-day protest, a powerful rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Tamu Township, local PDF Brigade (1) announced on Friday that the junta armed forces were to stop their activities under the false pretense of being PDF members or else they would be punished.
  • In South Dagon Myothit Township of Yangon Region, 3 people, including Ye Nyunt, the junta administrator of Ward 104 with a bad reputation, were shot dead at a tea-shop on Saturday morning.
  • In honour of International Workers’ Day on 1 May, a combined force of strike committees conducted an anti-junta movement somewhere in Yangon, with a banner - ‘Fight against the Fascist army with the power of the labour force’ on Saturday.

  • In Seoul of South Korea, Degu Sayardaw and Myanmar people in the international community expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship in a global event of lotus lanterns.
  • In Pha-Ang Township of Kayin State, the junta army and BGF entered Tada-U Village on Friday evening. Reportedly, they arrested over 30 villagers to make them carry loads.
  • Petronas from Malaysia and PTTEP from Thailand announced that they were withdrawing from the Yetagun Gas Project in Myanmar.
  • Federation of General Workers Myanmar – FGWM announced that there would be a May Day Campaign themed - ‘Towards a federal democratic union with secure payment and decent workplace’. 
  • In Sintku Township of Mandalay Region, U Swe, a pro-NLD and former village administrator, was killed by a local armed group on Friday evening.
  • In Shan State, a PDF confiscated 76 files, 76 national registration cards and cash worth of 162 lakh MMK from the immigration office. Reportedly, they burnt all the documents.
  • In Ywangan Township of Shan South, 10 junta soldiers died in local battles. As for PDF, they lost 5 members.
  • In Chin State, a convoy of 77 military trucks left Matupi for Mindat on the evening of 27 April. Reportedly, they took away solar panels and power generators, owned by villagers, along the way.
  • In Taninthayi Township of Taninthayi Region, a sergeant from the junta army joined a local guerrilla force.
  • According to Pulaw-based King Cobra Force, they managed to rescue a person in hand-cuffs from the junta army.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • According to the Shan National League for Democracy-SLND, their former Chair U Kun Tun Oo passed away at his house in Yangon on Saturday morning.
  • On Friday, illegal drugs confiscated in military area (171) of UWSA were transferred to the military stationed in Maiton. 
  • In Dimawso of Karenni State, there was a fighting between the junta army and a combined force of local PDFs in Myoma Ward at 10:00 am Friday. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers might have died and 3 others were seriously injured.

The Military Council

  • The military junta announced that enrollment in basic education schools all over the country would get started on 25 May.
  • According to the junta Ministry of Health, Myanmar people and foreigners who would enter the country by international commercial flights would be tested with a cost-effective COVID-19 test with quick results at Yangon International Airport.
  • The military junta announced that a project contract had been signed between Power Management Department under Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and Natural Current Energy Hydropower Co., Ltd on implementation of Nammatu-Thipaw hydro-power project on Nammatu River in Thipaw Township of Shan North.
  • The military junta stated that the loss caused by forest fires would be effectively reduced by promoting cooperation between China and Myanmar for control of forest fires in border areas and for a preventive mechanism against forest fires.
  • According to the military junta, there was a discussion for smooth trade flow regarding restrictions on border trade camps and Myanmar-China border trade custom clearance. Reportedly, constructive feedback was gained there and views were exchanged for future activities.
  • The junta Ministry of Health announced that the first-year course of medical universities and related ones would be opened on 12 May.
  • In the meeting on 3 March, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing left a confidential instruction to try the formation of so-called people’s security forces comprising pro-military people; Ma-Ba-Tha, YMBA, people’s army, police, former soldiers, red-cross members and firefighters.
  • The junta leader said that those who win trophies at the South East Asia Games would be awarded with a special social status.

Summary on 30 April

  • The military junta could not fight well against local PDFs in ground battles. Therefore, they tried to change to a new way for attacks. They made arrangements to form an armed group with jobless people by giving them money and weapons.
  • On the other hand, the military junta allowed extreme religious organizations and the USDP to carry out murder. Consequently, such murderous people have been committing crimes based on individual prejudice.
  • In Kayin, Chin, Sagaing and Magwe, there were heavy battles. Reportedly, both sides lost members there.
