The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In accordance with the right to self-defence, the public have been taking part in a People’s Defensive War. The NUG announced that 73 members of the junta armed forces had died, 51 others had been injured and 7 others had been caught alive.
  • U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights- NUG, said that at the time of national justice being destroyed, it was typical to rely on international justice. If there were delays in implementing international justice, it was like the driving force towards a public judiciary system.

Revolution Activities

  • Joseph Boreld, a high-ranking representative of EU’s Foreign Department, said that the junta was openly breaking human rights and international laws in recent attacks targeting humanitarian assistance staff and civilians in Kayah and Kayin states and that it was unacceptable to all.
  • Reportedly, over 3000 IDPs had to move again as the junta armed forces from Natchaung village arrived near Waibula town in Chin State.
  • In Kawhmu Township of Yangon Region, 3 people in monk robes carrying guns left Kyaiktaw village for Yegyaw village by motorboat on Thursday evening.
  • A combined force of YPDF-Bahan and Anonymous Force announced that CCTV Box near Tarmway Market had been destroyed by burning on Friday morning.
  • In Shwepyitha Township, there was a bomb explosion in a traffic police office at about 6:15 am Friday.
  • In Thaketa Township, there were 3 bomb explosions on Friday morning; at 5:30 am, 6:20 am and 7:20 am respectively. According to local residents, fired ammunition was heard as well.
  • At about 7:20 pm Thursday, local guerrilla force conducted an explosion attack near the traffic lights on the crossroads of Thanlyin Tarwa.
  • On New Year’s eve, Yangon Public Strike Committee carried out an anti-junta movement, hanging a banner ‘Public revolution must win’ somewhere in downtown area of Yangon.
  • In Kawhmu Township, two hundred-household leaders were shot dead by gunmen in a motorboat on Toe river bank at about 9:00 am Friday.
  • In Hlaing Township, Mg Htwe, junta-appointed administrator of Ward (6), was shot dead by 3 gunmen at about 9:30 am Friday.
  • In Insein Township, there was an explosion in front of City Mart at Thamai crossroads at about 11:00 am Friday. After the incident, the junta army opened gunfire around the area. Reportedly, a passenger on YBS (78) was hit with a bullet and injured.
  • On Thursday, U Soe Nyunt Lwin, Shan State Minister of Planning and Finance of the NLD government, was sentenced to long imprisonment.
  • In Monywa Township of Sagaing Region, there was a bomb explosion at the junta camp of Myanmar’s Economic Bank and City Hall on Friday afternoon.
  • On Friday morning, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship, chanting anti-junta slogans.
  • In Pale Township, a military convoy was attacked with mines by PRA in the west of Nagama Taung Village on 29th December. Reportedly, 11 junta soldiers, who died in the incident, were cremated chaotically near the area.
  • In a village of Shwebo Township, there was a march for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Yinmabin Township, Kyaukmaw villagers made a march against the military dictatorship on Friday, holding a banner - ‘Welcome the new year and demolish the fascist’.
  • In Pale Township, local PDFs conducted a bomb attack via drone. Reportedly, 9 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
  • In Mandalay, a combined rally of Monks’ Union, Myataung, engineers, Seinban, Chan/Zi in Unity, Mandala University students, Cooperative University students, Mandalay youth and multi-religions marched against the military dictatorship on Friday, holding a banner - ‘Welcome the new year and demolish the fascist’.
  • At 9:46 am Friday, there was a mine explosion while the junta army was clearing away a humanless strike in Mandalay. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers were injured.
  • In Kanbauk Area of Yebyu Township in Taninthayi Region, there was a protest themed ‘Welcome the new year and demolish the fascist’ on Friday morning.
  • In Thayetchaung Township, anti-junta youth carried out a sticker campaign themed ‘Welcome the new year and demolish the fascist’ on Friday.
  • In Myeik, junta police, soldiers and firefighters beat a man named Ko Ye Ko to death in Shanchaung Ward.
  • According to Dawei Political Prisoners’ Network, 3 anti-junta students of Dawei University were each sentenced to 2 years in prison at the junta court on Thursday.
  • In Natmauk Township of Magwe Region, Moe Wai, a junta policeman from Shwepandaw police station, was shot by a local guerrilla force at 4:00 pm Thursday. Consequently, he had to receive emergency medical treatment.
  • In Magwe Township, Soe Min Aung, allegedly junta informer in Kyakan Village, was shot dead by Ngabyema guerrilla force at about 1:00 pm Friday.
  • According to social media page of KGZ, they conducted a bomb attack via drone on a police station on 25th December.
  • At the junta court, a former regional MP from Eainme was sentenced to a year in prison together with hard labour.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Phakant Township of Kachin State, there was a fighting between KIA and the junta BGF at the crossroads near Jahtu Zup Village at about 10:15 am on 27th December.
  • In Maikai Township, there was a heavy fighting between two Shan ethnic armed organizations - RCSS and SSPP between Panketu and Fanngai villages from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on 29th December.
  • Reportedly, SNDP Chair Sai Ai Pao representing UPDJC was in Bangkok to meet with major general Yawd Serk.
  • An officer of the KNU’s foreign affairs department said that it was just the military junta who had been breaking the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
  • On Thursday night, KDF shot at the junta army regiment (427) in Dimawso Township of Kayah State.
  • According to the Kokang, more than 300 junta soldiers died in the battles between MNDAA and the junta armed forces in 2021 and many weapons were confiscated.
  • According to Mutraw newsletter, KNLA attacked the junta army twice in Phapun District of Kayin State under control of KNU Regiment (5). Reportedly, an AK gun was confiscated.
  • At about 6:38 am Friday, a combined force of KNLA and Thatone PDF conducted a mine attack on a military convoy leaving Beelin for Thatone. Reportedly, a military truck was hit with mines and junta soldiers might be injured.
  • At about 8:30 pm Thursday, Karenni Democratic Force attacked the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (427) in Dimawso Township of Kayar State. Reportedly, 8 junta soldiers died and 20 others were injured.
  • At about 8:00 am Friday, there was a clash between the junta army and KNLA outside of Taungzun Village in Dupalaya District under the control of the KNU.
  • On Friday morning, two troops of junta soldiers conducted an invasive attack on the Shinttan camp of the MNDAA in Kokang District.
  • Starting from 10:00 am Friday, there was a heavy fighting between the junta armed forces and local PDF in Dimawso Township of Karenni State. At about 3:40 pm, 3 military planes dropped bombs in the area, according to local residents.

The Military Council

  • The military junta spread brochures that life would not be guaranteed for those who do not get inspected after 6:00 pm on New Year’s eve.
  • On Thursday, the military junta announced that legal action would be taken against ethnic armed organizations that broke the NCA.
  • The military junta accused KNU of breaking the NCA. They also announced that they had to strengthen their armed forces and conducted attacks with the help of air strikes and mortars in accordance with Rule of Engagement as they had been attacked by a large number of KNU, NUG and PDF.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that it depends on public and international cooperation to hold a new election and hand over the power to winning political parties, and that they alone could not make it.
  • On Thursday, the junta Central Bank sold 15,000,000 USD with the exchange rate of 1778.00 MMK on average.
  • According to lawyer sources, U Aung Kyaw Oo, former Speaker of Mandalay Regional Parliament, was sentenced to 5 years in prison, together with hard labour, at the junta special court in Obo prison on Thursday.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that there was weakness in terms of data and it might happen as records had been destroyed under the slavery of others.
  • The junta ministry of health announced that up to 200 people could get together as COVID-19 was now under control.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that only after implementing the 5-points contained in the action plan of the military junta, a new election would be held and power would be handed back to the winning parties.

Summary on 31st December

  • Since before the coup, the military tends to break the NCA in the areas of EAOs and cause hardships in the peace process of the public government. After their coup, the NCA completely disappeared alongside their extreme acts.
  • In the case of Laykaykaw, the military junta entered a peaceful area by force. They said that EAOs broke the NCA only when they had a great loss due to defensive attacks. It is such shameful and childish behavior.
  • With the excuse of the impossible 5-point action plan, the military junta said that a new election would be held only after its implementation. Since the beginning, they have seized power with a craving for power.
  • Giving the excuse of the NCA, the military junta committing war crimes threatened EAOs to take action against them.
  • The military junta had a great loss in the areas with their invasive attacks. They conducted heavy air strikes in Kayin and Karenni states. In Karenni State, local PDFs and KA have been in the position even to control towns.
  • As for Sagaing, Chin and Shan North, they had battles against the junta armed forces. In addition to a great loss, there were cases in which junta soldiers gave up arms and ran away.
  • In Mandalay, Yangon, Magwe, Ayeyarwaddy and Taninthayi, the revolution gained great momentum with an increase in protests.
