The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In the statement to Kayin’s Revolution Day, the NUG said that they had a great honor for Kawko Saw Ba Oo Gyi and other martyrs, comrades and Kayin people who had to inevitably fight against the dictators who had responded with violence against their peaceful negotiations for creating their own destiny.
  • The NUG expressed their strong condemnation against terrorist acts of the military junta in Kayin State and violations of international human rights laws, including Geneva Convention. They also announced that they would make an effort to stop such violent activities at once and hold responsible personnel accountable fully for their actions.
  • The NUG vowed that they, in cooperation with all ethnics including Kayin people, would keep going towards a federal democracy union which could ensure democracy, equality and self-determination by putting an end to all kinds of dictatorship and ethnocentrism.
  • In the statement to Kayin’s Revolution Day, Ministry of Defence-NUG said that due to the unity of the revolutionary forces and a People’s Defence War, the downfall of the military junta was just around the corner.
  • Commission on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management-NUG made an announcement calling for condemnation against CEC and EC members of the Red Cross, who were supporting the military junta against 7 Fundamental Principles.
  • On social media, U Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights, wrote that there would be a rally near French Lower House in Paris on 1st February, calling for France’s recognition of the NUG.
  • Ministry of Human Rights-NUG announced the list of townships which had faced air strikes by the military junta after the coup.

Revolution Activities

  • In Dibeyin Township of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces raided Ngawedaw village on Monday morning. Reportedly, they set fire to 5 houses and tractors of the public.
  • In Monywa Township, Yin Nwe Thaint, a Pyusawti leader in Tawpu village, died on the spot in an attack by a group led by Captain Saturn at about 9:45 pm Sunday.
  • In Shwebo Township, the junta army set fire to Paukchai village on 25th January. Reportedly, 49 houses were burnt to ashes and 2 villagers were shot dead.
  • In Shwebo Township, the junta armed forces set fire to Ywasoe village on 24th January. Reportedly, nearly the whole village was destroyed and 2 villagers were killed.
  • As a 358-day protest, Kalay people marched against the military dictatorship on Monday, calling for participation in the Nationwide Silent Strike on 1st February.
  • In Kani Township, local people protested against the military dictatorship on Monday. Reportedly, Ko Phyo Wai Lyan, leader of Amyint Strike, gave an anti-junta talk to the public.
  • In Myinmu Township, the junta army conducted 6 attacks with MI 35 helicopter on Padattai village. After that, they unloaded junta soldiers from 2 helicopters near the village and raided the area.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a combined rally of villages marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • At about 9:15 am Monday, the junta army raided Ngawedaw village in Dibeyin Township and conducted destructive acts. Reportedly, no less than 2 houses were on fire.
  • On Sunday, Chindwin Attack Force issued a special warning to the public that they were getting ready for bomb attacks on crowded places in Monywa.
  • In Pale Township, local residents marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Natmauk Township of Magwe Region, the junta army stationing in Thabutbin village raided near-by villages on a daily basis and robbed public’s belongings. Consequently, local people had to run away.
  • In Myaing Township, local PDFs would carry out more attacks on the junta armed forces. According to local public’s administration, the junta staff members were to join the CDM before 10th February or leave the area.
  • In Yesagyo Township, local PDF announced that Arbe Latt, a soldier from the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (258), together with weapons, joined the CDM. Reportedly, he was sent to a liberated area.
  • In Ywangan Township of Shan South, local PDFs set fire to a MyTel telecom tower between Painegone village and Nyaungeain village at about 3:00 am Monday.
  • In Thayawaddy Township of Bago Region, there were bomb explosions on Monday morning. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers.
  • On Monday, Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • In Mandalay, a motorbike exploded in flames on Monday morning while a man was riding it. Reportedly, he was seriously injured, losing both arms and legs.
  • In Dawei Township and Yebyu Township in Taninthayi Region, nearly 30 junta soldiers might have died in their invasive attacks.
  • In Kyankhine Township of Ayeyarwaddy Region, the junta army beat and arrested Ko Zayar, allegedly a junta informer in Yephyukan village, on Sunday night.
  • In Mawlamyeingyun Township, the military junta permitted weekly gambling events, led by 2 pro-military people, in Yegyawgyi village.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In their statement, the alliance of 3 EAOs wrote that KNU/KNLA had strong attitudes and decisive actions in terms of warfare and political affairs. They also said that they, in cooperation with other partner organizations, would have to carry out activities in accordance with political and warfare needs for self-defence.
  • In Mutraw District under control of KNU Regiment (5), the junta army conducted the second air strike in Thaykawta Area at about 1:00 am Monday.
  • In Kanpetlet of Chin state, local CDF carried out attacks at the junta armed forces stationing in township education office, administration office and Yanaung pagoda at about 6:30 am Monday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.

The Military Council

  • In Matupi Township of Chin State, Yezwa residents had to run away to Mizoram of India due to battles between the junta army and local CDF. Reportedly, junta soldiers shouted through loud speakers to those people to come back home.
  • On Monday, the military junta announced that they would conduct military operations in Phapun District of Kayin State for security of border area.
  • In Kalay of Sagaing Region, the junta army arrested Ko Kyaw Thura on Monday morning for writing about Silent Strike Day on social media and sealed off his COVER KING shop.
  • Under arrangements of the military junta, there were pro-military events in Mandalay, Meittila, Thanphyu Zayat, Paung, Mudone, Chaungsone, Kyaikmayaw and Myitgyina on Monday.
  • According to the military junta, they conducted arrests and lawsuits against 31 people with Facebook accounts and pages for posting about the Silent Strike and participation in it.
  • According to the junta customer affairs department, Central Bank sold 150 million USD with a fixed rate for fuel sector.
  • In accordance with the order of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, there were talks against EAOs like KNU, and Daw Aung San Su Kyi and NLD in the army.
  • In Phapun Township of Kayin State, a combined force of KNLA and PDF conducted an attack at Dagwin camp, where the junta armed forces had been stationing. According to the junta propaganda, it was breaking the NCA.

Summary on 31 January

  • The military junta conducted extreme oppression on those who talked about participation in Silent Strike. In addition to arrests, they sealed off property. It shows that the dictators were afraid of the public’s revolution in any possible way.
  • The junta leader himself has been supervising military operations in Sagaing and Magwe. Reportedly, the junta armed forces set fire to the whole villages in Shwebo, Minkin and Natmauk townships. They also took away public’s belongings. In such ways, they committed war crimes.
  • In Phapun District of Kayin State, KNU Regiment (5) released a statement to the junta staff to return home. After that, the military junta officially announced that they would carry out military operations there. In addition, they accused KNU of breaking the NCA. Consequently, there might be heavy battles in the area in the days to come.
  • Despite their initial excuse of the military coup due to electoral fraud, the junta leaders uttered the words of divides based on religions and races.
  • There were propaganda activities in the army against Daw Aung San Su Kyi and EAOs including KNU.
