At least six prisoners escaped from Myoma Police Station, in Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, at around 1 am on 1 March and one of the escaped prisoners was a murderer, according to a source close to the police community.

“It is not known how they escaped although there is CCTV,” said the source.

He added that morning following the escape a fight broke out among policemen at Pathein Myoma police station and some were crying.

"After the prisoners escaped, clashes broke out between the police officers in the police station this morning [Tuesday 1 March]. It is not clear what happened. I heard that a patrol officer who was on duty yesterday [Monday 28 February] was arrested,” he said.

The law states that if a prisoner escapes, the police on duty will be punished. A source close to the police said that the police station commander could also be fired.

A resident of Pathein said that Pathein Myoma Police Station is surrounded by barbed wire barricades and has tight security. It is opposite the Irrawaddy Regional Police Commander's Office on Mahabandula Road,
