Rose party chairman Kyaw Myint sentenced to 2-year imprisonment

Chanayethazan Township court, Mandalay, sentenced Rose Party or United Democratic Party (UDP) chairman Kyaw Myint on November 12 to two years’ imprisonment.

Chanayethazan Township court magistrate Kyaw Myo Win said that he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment under section 224 of Penal Code (resisting and obstruction to legal apprehension) for escaping from prison.

Kyaw Myint was arrested on September 29 in the evening at his residence at Pan Hlaing housing estate, Yangon and was then sent to Mandalay Obo prison facing trial.

He had escaped from Mandalay General Hospital Guard Ward in January 1999 while he was serving a 9-year prison term in Mandalay prison.
