Refugees in Myaing Gyi Ngu and Kamaung in need of aid

Due to fighting in Hpapun township about 1,000 families who fled, need help. The Internally Displaced People (IDPs) have been living in Myaing Gyi Ngu and Kamaung for more than two months and are in need of shelter and food.

Myaing Gyi Ngu Sayadaw and donors helped about a thousand refugee families, but the population has increased.

"As for the accommodation issue, Sayadaw (senior monk) will build 40 houses. There are 40 houses for people who are not able to return to the village, it is Kyat 200,000 for each house. In fact, it is not enough houses for the IDPs. I have heard that some people are living in the houses of close relatives," said an aid worker.

Currently, the Hpapun-Kadati-Kamaung road has been reopened because clashes stoppede, but IDPs dared not return to their homes yet.

There are landmines in the villages and the military has deployed troops, which could lead to a resumption of hostilities.
