Police station and gym attacked by PDF in Khayan Township, Yangon

Phaya Pyo police station and the gymnasium in Khayan township were attacked with a 40 mm grenade launcher on the night of 16 December, according to local PDF forces.

The attack on the Phaya Pyo Police Station happened at 7.30 pm and the gymnasium at 9:10 p.m.

A member of Khayan PDF said, “We first opened fire at the police station with a 40 mm grenade launcher, and the shoot-out in there lasted about 20 minutes. Then, five military vehicles, which came to reinforce, were mined but in vain. We opened fire at the gymnasium with a 40 mm grenade.”

When the PDF, which often attacks coup military force’s targets in Khayan township, attacked, there were approximately 40 armed soldiers in the station. The exact casualty figure is unknown because it was dark.

“As of this morning (17 December), at least five soldiers have been killed. We are still investigating to confirm the information we received this morning,” said a PDF fighter.

At around 10 pm, the 40 troops of junta raided houses in Phaya Pyo village and arrested eight villagers claiming to check the overnight guest registration. Two locals were arrested linked to the blast at the gymnasium and have not been released.

The entrance road and exit road of this part of the city have been closed and vehicle entry has been restricted.

On 5 December, at least three policemen were killed when guerrillas attacked the Myoma police station and education office in Khayan township, Yangon region with a remote-controlled mine.
