People’s Party to only contest Taninthayi Region

People’s Party chairperson Ko Ko Gyi said that a total of eight electoral candidates of his party will contest in three constituencies in Taninthayi Region in the 2020 general elections.

The party was not ready to contest in all ten townships in the region, that is why the party chose only three townships where it will contest.

According to the Political Parties Registration Law, a party will not be entitled to subsist as a political party if it is incapable to contest as parliamentary candidates from its party in at least three constituencies.

Ko Ko Gyi said that his party will focus on the fishery sector, which is one of the main businesses in Taninthayi.
