Local people took to the streets of Sagaing’s Myaung township on the weekend with security from People’s Defence Forces to show their support for the National Unity Government (NUG) and an end to Myanmar junta rule.

The Civil Defence and Security Organization Myaung Township (CDSOM) announced on January 15 that they hoisted the PDF flag to support a NUG rally and public strike in Myaung Township in support of the local defense forces.

The rally was held to welcome and support the NUG’s people’s defence activities.

The CDSOM said it was possible for the NUG to become the legitimate government if all groups worked together.

The strike was successfully held with the security provided by the Myaung Township-based People's Defense Forces such as CDSOM and the Myaung Union Army despite the presence of junta troops in Myaung.

A Gangsters With A Beautiful Heart Group representative told Mizzima that 11 groups officially took responsibility for security for the rally but maybe as many as 50 PDFs actually took part.

The protesters called for support for the NUG and for the uprising to win.

In addition to the NUG support rally and people’s strike, the CDSOM and Myaung Union Army also reportedly bombed the Office of the Fisheries Department and a Police outpost in Myaung Township on the weekend.
