The White Dragon Column and the White Tiger Column of People Defense Forces [PDF] jointly attacked Yay Kuu Kan military base hill located in Taminekone Village, Kawkareik Town in Kayin (Karen) State, an area under the control of the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 6 in Karen State, on 21 June around 11:00 am.

The Yay Kuu Kan base is located in the area where the junta’s military entered after the coup d'etat.

“Since before that day, we had been sniping and dropping bombs via drone at the base. We lost one of our drones. On 21 June, we took time and attacked it attentively. There were ten casualties from them and one from us,” said Ko Bo Min, a spokesperson from the White Tiger Column.

As a consequence of suffering many losses during the battle on that day, the junta’s military used fighter jets bombarding three times and the junta’s Kawkareik based Infantry Unit 97 fired heavy artillery recklessly into the area all day long.

In 2023, more than two years after the military coup, the ethnic armed forces and people defense forces are able to switch from defending to counter-attacking.
