According to Maung Maung Swe, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG), 52 soldiers and officers from the Military Council joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) between 1 August and 21 September 2023.

This information was shared with the public on 26 September when the Ministry of Defense announced the progress with the Spring Revolution that was launched in the wake of the 1 February 2021 military coup.

Out of these soldiers, 14 were reported to have brought weapons. As a result, the Ministry of Defense decided to offer extra rewards for these weapons, Maung Maung Swe said.

The Ministry of Defense of the NUG is open to accepting individuals who were previously part of the junta to join the CDM. Additionally, the NUG have previously extended invitations to those who choose not to join the CDM but to serve as core informants.

According to Maung Maung Swe, spokesperson for the resistance Ministry of Defense, the top leaders within the junta have been removed, expelled, executed, or detained. This is believed to be a result of the failure of the junta's military operations in various aspects.

“The top leaders within the junta face challenges, many soldiers from the lower battalions have chosen to avoid engaging in battles, have been imprisoned for disobeying orders, or have fled from their positions,” Maung Maung Swe said.

Not only have over 13,000 junta soldiers and policemen joined forces with the public to overthrow the junta, but also over 70 arms of various types, 10,000 bullets, bombs, and related materials have been received from 52 soldiers and officers from the Military Council who have joined the CDM.

In recognition of their actions, over 300 million kyat has been reportedly awarded as an honour, according to the NUG.
