NUCC says Federal Democratic Charter ratified by the People's Assembly to be released soon

Maung Maung, a leader of the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), said that the People's Assembly had approved sections 1 and 2 of the Federal Democracy Charter and would soon present it to the public.

"We will decide when the charter will be released. We have already approved both section (1) and section. It will be openly announced soon,” he told a press conference.

He made the remarks at a press conference at the first National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) conference on January 30. Sections 1 and 2 of the federal charter were discussed at the NUCC and ratified at the first People's Assembly, held from January 27 to 29.

Maung Maung said, “We have some preparations. The preparations that I say, are proof reading, layout design and translation. Soon after completion of these things, sections 1 and 2 of the federal charter will be announced."

The Committee of Representatives of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) has announced the Federal Democratic Charter with goals: to end the root causes of conflicts within the Union; to enable all ethnic people to participate; to establish a federal democratic union that guarantees democracy, equality and self-determination; to enable all nationalities and all citizens of the Union to live together in peace and harmony based on Freedom, Equality and Justice.

The federal charter was jointly discussed and approved by elected members of parliament, political parties, CDM leaders, general strike forces, women and youth groups, civil society organizations and ethnic armed groups.
