Kachin State Election Commission secretary Tun Aung Khaing said that they had not yet received an election monitoring application from any civil societies yet in Kachin State.

Despite having more than 20 election-monitoring organizations in Kachin State in 2015 general elections, no organization has applied yet for monitoring 2020 general elections in the State.

Any registered civil societies organizations can apply for monitoring, domestic CSOs can apply at their respective State/Region election commissions and foreign CSOs can apply at the Union Election Commission (UEC).

The CSOs which want to monitor elections can submit their application until one month before the polling date.

People’s Alliance for Credible Elections (PACE) executive director Sai Ye Kyaw Swar Myint said that the presence of such election monitoring CSOs could reduce electoral disputes and malpractice and could give transparency in the elections.
