Nearly 10,000 sympathizers and supporters of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party participated in mass rally held in Loikaw, Kayah State on Friday driving through town by car, motorcycle and three-wheeler in expression of their support for the party for the forthcoming elections.

The election is set for November 8.

One of the supporters, Zaw Htwe, told Mizzima that they organized this rally at the request of party supporters. Zaw Htwe has submitted his application for party membership and is still waiting for reply and he is one of the event organizers of the rally.

“Some complained to us in their comments on our Facebook posts that we didn’t inform them on an earlier rally held on September 8. So we promised them we would inform them the next time in advance. And then we organized this mass rally today,” he said.

Kayah State is the sole COVID-19-free state in the country but the organizers distributed face masks to protect all party supporters from infection. They also distributed snacks and drinking water donated by well-wishers to the supporters.
