The Ministry of Justice of the National Unity Government (NUG) today called for the unconditional release of President U Win Myint and the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from various penalties Imposed.

The following is their statement:

  1. The terrorist military group, led by Min Aung Hlaing, announced today (1st August 2023) that penalties for some offenses imposed on the President U Win Myint and the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi have been pardoned in accordance with the Section 401 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
  2.  The President U Win Myint and the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi have not committed any crimes, yet were arrested on the basis of a one-sided conspiracy; all punishments imposed upon these individuals have been both unlawful and unjust.
  3.  Each and every citizen throughout the country, including the President U Win Myint and the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who have been unjustly arrested and imprisoned, are to be unconditionally released, and all punishment imposed on them were void ab initio.
  4. The remittance order made by Min Aung Hlaing’s terrorist military group misleads the public and is not only a minimal and tokenistic attempt to pacify the anger of the public towards the military’s unlawful terrorism acts but is also an attempt to camouflage their impending defeat.
  5. The Ministry of Justice, hereby, declares that the terrorist military group, led by Min Aung Hlaing, shall set aside all punishments imposed on each and every innocent citizen, including the President U Win Myint and the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and shall at once make an unconditional release.
