A group of Myanmar junta soldiers have reportedly retreated at a major military base Mae Tha Ree Hta outpost on Salween riverbank border with Mae Kha Hta village in Thailand, according to sources close to Karen National Union (KNU).

Local sources close to the KNU said that the military outpost also known as Mae Kha Hta camp is one of the biggest Burmese military outposts along Salween River with at least 30 to 40 armed men.

However, local sources said that they noticed more active movements of the soldiers at the outpost these days. Some soldiers went to bathe on the river, some walked in the outpost area while others are on duty at the outpost, according to the sources.

"When they [Burmese soldiers] went to bathe on the river, I counted them and they were at least 30 people. I saw some walked at the outpost on the hill," said a local source.

KNU sources also said that they believe some Burmese soldiers at Oo Thu Hta outpost have retreated to Mae Tha Ree Hta base after Oo Thu Hta outpost was captured by the KNU soldiers yesterday.

Mae Tha Ree Hta or Mae Kha Hta military outpost is a permanent Burmese junta's military base along Salween River with concrete bunkers and ammunition store where heavy ammunition and sophisticated weapons including artillery weapons are installed at the outpost. Two Buddhist pagodas were also built at the outpost, according to the local sources.
