Myanmar police injured in landmine attacks after setting fire to village in Sagaing

A police car was hit by mine attacks, leaving some police members injured, on their way back to the local station after they set fire to a village in Taze Township, Sagaing Region, on 24 September morning.

“Police members were wounded in a landmine attack. But it is not clear whether it was conducted by people’s defence forces or the landmine was planted by their security forces,” according to a local source who preferred to remain anonymous.

The source said that about 50 members of the junta force carried out an arson attack in Kyigone village to burn down 11 houses and paddy farms on 23 September.

He added, “About 600 baskets of paddy were destroyed in the fire. The southern side of the village was set on fire yesterday, and the northern part today. The full extent of the damage remains unknown yet.”

The junta troops launched the arson attack after one of their informants was killed in Kyigone village.

The junta’s troops have made several arson attacks across Myanmar. In mid-June, junta’s police set fire to Kinma, a village in Magway Region, destroying about 80 percent of its houses.

Even before the coup, the Myanmar’s army repeatedly committed such crimes.
