Myanmar junta troops raided Thadut village in the western part of Myaing Township in Magway Region destroying 25 houses at around 9 am on January 16, according to local residents.

Similarly, Nyaung Pan Lay village in western Myaing Township was set on fire at around 11 am on January 16 according to an announcement by the Myaing PDF.

Starting from January 9, the Military Council used many troops to clear villages across Myaing Township and arrest villagers, burn houses, loot and use heavy weapons.

Thousands of people from most villages in the western and northern parts of Myaing Township were displaced by the actions of the troops. They are fleeing into the jungle, the statement said.

The military council troops have been stationed in these villages since January 15 and houses in the villages were burned until January 16, according to locals.

"On January 10, more than 50 military vehicles from Pakokku township were deployed to the villages in Myaing Township. The villagers are now fleeing. The villagers do not know where to run because there is also a group of junta soldiers marching from Pale township,” said a local resident.

Locally documented video footage showed smoke billowing from a village. The local people from Bahin, Nyaung Sea Ngar Win, Ngar Myaung၊ Sin Swal and Thee Ton villages between Myaing Township and Pale Township are fleeing.

“The council's convoy has not yet clashed with local rebel forces,” a spokesman for the Daung Net-No Boundaries Confederate guerrillas confirm.
