Myanmar Military Council prepares to raise taxes on businesses

General Zaw Min Tun, a spokesperson of the Military Council said at press conference on 19 May that the Military Council is preparing to raise the taxes on businesses.

Currently, the Military Council is preparing to register the IMEI numbers of mobile phones and collect taxes, and is restricting the import of phones without paying taxes.

“Whether we are dealing with tax system or with procedures, we will continue to follow with rules and regulations,” General Zaw Min Tun said.

Currently, the Military Council is blacklisting companies which operated export business from 2016 to 2018 for export earnings that were not returned to their bank account in foreign currency within three months.
