Military Council troops shot and killed without apparent reason a man with mental illness who was walking along the road at 11 p.m. on 10 March in Pyay in the western part of Bago Division.

While the man was walking with a stick in his hand on Bogyoke road near the train station, a soldier shot and killed him.

An eyewitness said the man was mentally il and that the townspeople know him.

“He always had something in his hand,” he said, noting that he did not trouble anyone. Military Council troops shot him and they called on firemen to take him to the military hospital but he died on the way.

A junta soldier from Ka. Pa. Sa (7) who was on guard duty at the Pyay train station is allegedly the culprit. The Military Council so far has not released a statement regarding the case.
