Junta soldiers destroyed the house of a protester in Sagaing region’s Kalay Township on 19 April.

The owner of the house, Ma Kyain Dun Kain and three others, Ko Than Soe Oo, Ma Hnin San, and Ko Myo Win were arrested by junta soldiers whilst they were taking part in a Thingyan flash protest with clay pots near Tat Oo Thida Ward in Kalay Town, at about 2:00 p.m. on 18 April.

After their arrests, the junta sealed off all their houses.

Then, at about 3:00 p.m. on 19 April, about 30 junta soldiers arrived with a bulldozer at Ma Kyain Dun Kain’s house in Kalay Town’s Taung Phila Ward and destroyed the house, according to a member of the Kalay Protest Committee.

He said to Mizzima: “The house was completely demolished. The other houses have also been seized, I'm not sure what will happen next.”

Junta soldiers also arrested Ma Kyain Dun Kain’s mother and her disabled niece but later released the niece on 18 April.

Kalay Township’s Protest Committee has been holding protests every day since 7 February 2021, despite arrests and crackdowns by the junta regime.
