Local residents report that Military Council forces apprehended 27 Rohingya individuals in Kyangin Township, Ayeyarwaddy region at 7:30 am on 23 August.

They were discovered concealed in a truck and arrested at the checkpoint of the Oakpon Military Council in Zeepinkwin village-tract, Kyangin Township, according to a source familiar with the police.

“The Oakpon checkpoint is known for being troublesome. When soldiers and police were checked there, a vehicle with Rohingya went through the checkpoint without being noticed. But later, when the police checked the vehicle, they found the Rohingya inside. So, they arrested both the driver and the Rohingya,” the source said.

Among those arrested by the Military Council and police were 21 Rohingya men and six women. Additionally, the individual responsible for transporting them, identified as Nay Hlaing Oo, was also apprehended.

As of now, reports indicate that 27 Rohingya are under detention at the Kyangin police station, with the Military Council actively pursuing a case under the Registration Act.
