More than 30 youths arrested at birthday party in Dawei’s Laung Lone Township

More than 30 youths who were celebrating a birthday at a juice shop in Tha Byar Village, Launglon Township, Dawei District, were arrested by the junta soldiers, according to the Launglon Township Joint Strike Committee.

Thirty-four youths were arrested by the military council on suspicion of carrying out a ‘Six Twos protest,’ during a birthday party at 12:30 p.m. on 22 February, according to locals.

The Six Twos protests were protests against the junta held across the country on 22 February 2022, or 2/2/2022, also known as the Six twos, supposedly a lucky date because it is a palindrome (the same backwards as it is forwards).

"The junta military troops came in full force with two cars and made unjust arrests. They are now at the Laung Lone police station", said an officer from the Laung Lone Township Village Joint Strike Committee.

The 34 arrested youths are from Nghin Maw and Sitpye villages in Laung Lone Township, he added.

The parents of the detainees said that they have been taken to Laung Lone PoliceStation and police are checking their phones to see if there was any evidence that they had been carrying out a Six Twos protest.
