More than 10 independent resistance groups suspend activities due to army pressure

More than 10 independent resistance groups had suspended their activities by 2 March because of increased scrutiny from military intelligence, according to their respective social media sites.

These independent groups are not controlled by the National Unity Government (NUG) or the People’s Defence forces (PDFs). The groups who have suspended their activities are: To Comrades, ANTS, Yell Baw, Wings of Urban Revolution, Dogs Fight, Hlu Kya Mal + Di Ka Kyae, MyatNoe Yin Hlu, Mu Ma Nay Ne- Lar Hlu, Naing Chin Yin Hlu, Wal Yin Hlu Naing-Sar Oak Saing, Bees Fundraising Team and the Book Raffle Fundraising Program.”

"The enemy military army is conducting a vigorous search for our brothers’ teams. Our brothers and sisters are young people who are loyal to the revolution. They are more capable than the average young person. We do not want to lose these young people. Some of our Brotherhood allies are working hard to ensure the safety of these young people by stopping action against them,” a spokesperson from the United Alliances-UAs said.

The United Alliances - UAs is a coalition of 10 independent revolutionary groups not controlled by the NUG. Six of them have currently suspended their activities,

The military council has been freezing independent group members’ bank accounts in recent days.

“Our members were arrested by the Military Council. Most of their bank accounts have been frozen. The military council is investigating and examining the suspects’ personal information and arresting them if they suspect [revolutionary activity]. Military council troops are chasing all [the independent groups] at the same time, which means that the order [to go after independent groups] has just been issued. There also have been early arrests,” a spokesperson from To Comrades, one of the groups that has suspended its activities, told Mizzima.

The military has also been arresting urban guerillas (UGs), according to a reliable source, but there has been no confirmation of the exact number detained.

The source said: "My three friends who are members of independent groups were also arrested by them. Members of UGs have been arrested in the last three or four days, they were arrested in groups.”

A spokesperson for the independent groups said that they had only temporarily suspended their activities for the safety of their members and they will resume their activities after the military has verified the information in the bank accounts and taken the necessary action.

"Because the military council is pursuing a four-pronged stop strategy to stop [revolutionary groups], independent groups have become their targets. Our suspensions are temporary and we will try to support our comrades as much as we can", he explained.
