Mon Unity Party (MUP) urges end to conflict after assassination of Mi Wai Thi Phyo

After gunmen shot and killed Mi Wai Thi Phyo, a member of the Mon Unity Party, the party's central executive committee issued a statement on the evening of June 9 urging relevant organizations to work together for the deterrence of sectarian violence.

Wai Thi Phyo was a candidate of Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House) for Constituency No.4 in Kyainseikkyi township in the last 2020 election and was assassinated between Bayarthonezu village and Ywarthit Village, Kyainseikkyi Township at 6 p.m. on June 8.

The party strongly condemned the violence and called for concerted efforts to "prevent ethno-religious Conflicts."
