The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) announced that it had taken full control of Kunlong Town in northern Shan State on 12 November.

The MNDAA first launched its offensive against Kunlong on 1 November when it targetted a military camp and administrative offices on the outskirts of the town, which allowed them to take control of Kunlong Bridge.

They then launched assaults on police stations in the town from Kunlong Bridge. By 2 November the MNDAA had taken control of the town’s police stations, traffic police facilities and township administration offices in the town. It had also captured the Huang Khyang Pauk Pauk Military Hill Camp on the eastern bank of the Salween River.

On 6 November the MNDAA started attacking junta camps on the west bank of the Salween River. There was continuous fighting for six days before the MNDAA finally took control of the junta camps and the whole town of Kunlong at 10:15 a.m. on 12 November. The MNDAA also now controls the area around Kunlong Town.

An armoured vehicle and a large number of weapons and ammunition were seized from the junta troops during the fighting, according to the MNDAA.

Previously, in 1970, the MNDAA had tried to take over Kunlong Town. That time, despite fighting the Myanmar Army for 40 days, the MNDAA still failed to take Kunlong.

The MNDAA along with the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Arakan Army (AA) make up the Three Brotherhood Alliance. Since launching its 1027 offensive in northern Shan State on 27 October, the Three Brotherhood Alliance has taken control of the northern Shan State towns of Chin Shwe Haw, Monekoe, Paung Hseng, Kyukoke (a.k.a. Pang Hseng), and Kunlong.
