Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga has called on the Indian government to provide humanitarian aid for Myanmar refugees fleeing the crisis in their country, reports Economic Times.

The Indian state of Mizoram has around 11,500 Myanmar nationals taking shelter from the violence that came in the wake of the 1 February Myanmar military coup.

Mizoram shares a 510 kilometre-long unfenced border with Myanmar.

CM Zoramthanga has sent a number of messages to the Indian PM Narendra Modi calling for help with this issue, the newspaper reports.

NGOs in the Indian state of Mizoram are making arrangement to house the refugees. Large number of people who crossed to India belonged to the Chin community. They are also known as Zo and share the same ancestry, ethnicity and culture as the Mizos of Mizoram, according to the report.
