Migratory bird population drops in Mandalay

According to bird watchers, the number of migratory birds in Mandalay Region is declining every year due to ecosystem changes and human activity.

After 2016, the number of migratory birds arriving in Taung Thaman Lake has been declining. Before thousands of birds arrived, but now only about a dozen arrived, said Thant Zaw, executive director of the Myanmar Birds and Environmental Conservation Association.

Thant Zaw said that in addition to raising awareness of migratory bird poaching, we also need to take action.

Zay Maung Thein, vice-chairman of the Myanmar Birds and Environmental Conservation Association, said that bird arrivals has been slowly declining and this year is the worst year for bird arrivals in Taungthaman Lake due to irrigation problems.
