A man was electrocuted and killed whilst trying to steal electrical cable in Lashio, northern Shan State on the morning of 24 July.

The incident happened near to a cornfield close to Loilwant Village, in Lashio Township.

A Loilwant villager said: "He was electrocuted while attempting to disconnect the power cable from the 33 KV power line. It happened when no one was in the cornfield. The police and the Lashio Youth Social Assistance rushed him to the hospital in an ambulance.”

The power of the electric shock had ruptured the man’s stomach according to a member of Lashio Youth Social Assistance.

The dead man is currently unidentified. He was about 30 years old and his body is currently being held as an unidentified body in Lashio General Hospital.
