Man dies during interrogation after arrest of NLD MP and four others

A man was killed during his interrogation after the junta Military Council arrested a National League for Democracy (NLD) member of parliament (MP) and four civilians in Kawa Township, Bago Region, a local source told Mizzima.

“Five people, including Aung Min Tun, an NLD MP from Kawa Township, were arrested. A man named Zar Ni Lin died on 7 March during an interrogation in Bago. He was a former member of the NLD party. He was a civilian who did not get involved in politics after the coup", said the source.

Zar Ni Lin was arrested in Mamauk village on 5 March after two military council informants were killed near Aye Ywa Thit on 4 March. Aung Min Tun, an MP, someone from Rickan Station and two others were arrested on 7 March,

Zar Ni Lin, who was tortured to death at 3 p.m. on 7 March during an interrogation in Bago, was 35 years old and leaves behind a wife and child, according to locals.

“These arbitrary arrests and killings will make the Kawa people even more disgusted with the injustice of the Military Council”, a local said.

It is being reported that some people from Rikkan Gyi and Mamauk villages are fleeing because of wrongful arrests by the junta Military Council in Kawa Township.

People Defense Forces (PDFs) shot and killed San Win (b) Paungto from Rikkan Gyi village and Maung Zaw, the administrator of Mek Mauk village, near Aye Ywa Thit village on 4 March.

The Kawa Township People's Defense Force (KPDF) has issued a final warning to all Pyu Saw Htee (pro-junta militia) members and village administrators under the control of the military council, to resign by 15 March and said that those who do not will become military targets.
