Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob discussed the Myanmar crisis with his Thai counterpart Prayuth Chan-ocha on Friday in the first official visit of a foreign leader to Thailand since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, reports AP.

The visit focused primarily on bilateral relations, including ways to boost their economies, with the ongoing crisis in Myanmar said to be touched on briefly, according to the report.

When discussing Myanmar, the two leaders underlined the need for solidarity among members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in implementing the Five Point Consensus that is aimed at bringing peace to the country.

The consensus was agreed in April 2021 by ASEAN members but Myanmar has so far stalled on putting it into effect.

ASEAN has been struggling to deal with the Myanmar crisis, a black mark on the 10-nation regional bloc that has been struggling to revive their countries following the COVID-19 restrictions and pandemic problems.
