Long-range grenade attack on Yangon’s Kayan Township Education Office

A long-range grenade was fired at the Kayan Township Education Office in Yangon Southern District at 7:37 p.m. on 22 February, according to a Kayan People's Defense Force (KPM) officer.

"The M79 long-range grenade was fired at Military Council troops stationed at the Kayan Education Office. It fell at the right position where they were gathering, resulting in five soldiers being killed and some injuries," he said.

The Kayan township education office is located on the Bago-Kayan-Thone Gwa Road and has been manned by about 30 members of the military council for about five months, according to locals.

The attack killed five members of the Military Council. Three others were seriously injured and a military vehicle was also damaged. The local people's defense force (PDF) fighters were able to withdraw without any casualties.

"I want to request some help for the revolutionaries who are sacrificing for their lives…. People should not be disappointed because we are trying as much as we can. We must move forward. When sparks accumulate, they must glow," added the KPM officer.

The local defense forces have been conducting a series of attacks on Military Council bases in Kayan Township, resulting in several military casualties.
