Local transmission of COVID-19 found after one-month hiatus

A local transmission of COVID-19 was found in a bank employee in Sittway on August 16. She has no foreign travel history or contact with an infected patient.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Zaw Lwin from Sittway government hospital said, “We can say it has reached a situation of grave concern.

In the announcement made by the Ministry of Health and Sports, the laboratory-confirmed patient is a CB Bank employee and she is confirmed case No. 375.

She was admitted to Sittway People’s Hospital on August 14 after showing COVID-19 signs and symptoms of high fever, sneezing, coughing, loss of smell etc. and then a throat swab was taken from her on August 15 and sent to National Health Laboratory (NHL) in Yangon for confirmation test and it was a confirmed case on August 16.

The last local transmission case of COVID-19 without known foreign travel history was found on July 17.
