KNU claims 262 battles in Kawthoolei in August

In August, there were 262 battles between the Military Council, BGF troops and local KNLA forces in Kawthoolei area which is controlled by the Karen National Union (KNU).

According to a KNU statement on 8 September, 261 were injured and 333 Military Council soldiers were killed during the battles in August. Four members of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) were killed and 20 injured.

In the statement, the Military Council troops and Border Guard Force (BGF) fired 373 rounds of heavy artillery into villages, and carried out 12 airstrikes during the month.

A total of nine civilians were killed, 16 were injured and 16 dwellings were destroyed due to the junta attacks.

The junta did not release any information about the circumstances of the casualties during the battles in the KNU-controlled area.
According to the KNU’s statistics for the July battles, there were 259 clashes in the KNU-controlled area and more than 300 members of the Military Council army and the BGF were killed.

As a follow-up to the military coup, the Institute for Strategy and Policy (ISP) Myanmar announced at the end of August that the fighting against the military dictatorship is spreading widely throughout the country. The war is increasing rapidly, and Karen State has the highest frequency of battles.
