The Putao People's Defense Force (Putao-PDF) issued a warning letter to officials at the Magwe Za Gate between Putao township and Naungmon Township on February 2, according to the Putao-PDF.

The warning letter was issued to the junta-backed Magwe Za people’s militia group stationed at the Magwe Za checkpoint on the Putao- Naungmon- Magwe Za- Khaung Lan Phu road. It was addressed to Chan Tan Khin, the Regional Parliamentary Representative of Naungmon Township in Kachin State, and Nam Ye Min, the Naung Mon Township Administrator.

It warned them not to persecute civilians or arrest any more civil servants taking part in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). It also said that junta troops stationed at the Magwe checkpoint should be careful about the actions they take.

Naungmon Township is a township in Putao District. The area is dominated by military groups under the junta military council, which makes it difficult for local people to travel.

Locals are worried about future possible fighting because, since January 31, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Putao People's Defense Force (PDF) coalition forces have begun military operations against military council forces along the Naungmon-Khaung Lan Phu Township road in Putao District.

The KIA and the People's Defense Force (PDF) coalition forces raided and occupied the Sum Pian army base in Sum Prabhum Township on the Union Highway in Putao District on February 1. According to reports a prisoner of war was captured and ammunition was confiscated.
