Khampat Town in Sagaing Region taken over by revolutionary forces

Khampat Town in Tamu Township, Sagaing Region, was completely taken over by defence forces following a successful assault on the last junta camp in town, at 11:00 a.m. on 7 November.

"We have successfully taken control of Khampat town. However, we are concerned about potential air assaults by the junta, so we are unable to provide detailed information at this time," said a representative from the Tamu Township People's Administration.

Khampat town is located on the Kalaymyo - Tamu Highway, in the western part of Sagaing Region. It borders Chin State and is a few kilometres from the Indian border.

Defence forces started attacking junta camps located in schools, hospitals and a police station in Khampat Town on 3 November. On 7 November the final junta-held camp in the town, the heavily fortified Yazagyo Military Tactical Hill Camp, was captured by the defence forces.

According to a defence force fighter the junta soldiers stationed at Yazagyo Military Tactical Hill Camp abandoned the camp and fled.

The defence forces that took the town included, amongst others: Tamu District Battalion (2), Special Forces (2), the All Burma Students ’Democratic Front (ABSDF) and the Chin National Defense Force (CNDF)

Khampat Town is the second town in Sagaing Region to have been taken over by revolutionary forces. Previously, on 6 November, Kalwin Town in Sagaing Region came under the control of revolutionary forces.

This comes on top of the junta recently losing its grip on several towns in northern Shan State following the recent combined offensive by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Arakan Army (AA).
