The chief of the Karenni Army (KA), Major General Aung Myat, said that now the Bamar people are taking part in the revolution it will succeed, in a speech on the KA’s 75th anniversary.

He said: “Because the majority of the Bamar (Burman) people in Myanmar have also taken part in the revolution, I am absolutely certain that the revolution will be stronger and achieve success.”

He warned that if the revolution fails the next seven generations will toil as slaves and encouraged the commanders of resistance forces to forget self-interest, lead the way and be united.

Major General Aung Myat demanded discipline from his army saying: “Our army is not a mercenary army. As a patriotic army, we must be more disciplined than the mercenary army. Respect the law. Obey the command. Be disciplined. Protect the public as much as possible.”

But when it came to the enemy, he called for them to be ruthless. “In the revolution, those who should be killed, must be killed. Those who should die, must die. That is the principle of revolution. Therefore, be decisive. Commanders, do not hesitate,” he said.

He called for the leaders of the revolution to also respect human rights and to encourage the public to respect human rights.

Remembering those who died he said: “I would like to deliver a special message to urge all to honour the spirits of our fallen comrades and the public who gave their lives, to extend our gaze towards the civilians whose towns, villages, homes, and lives have been ravaged, and to exercise caution in placing trust in political opportunists and religious opportunists.”

Major General Aung Myat also thanked all the people and organisations who have supported the revolutionary forces in Karenni State.
