Resistance forces attacked a junta checkpoint, injuring four junta soldiers, in Sagaing Region’s Depayin Township on 9 August.

The resistance forces attacked the checkpoint at the entrance to Depayin Township because the junta soldiers were extorting money from members of the public. There were about 20 junta soldiers stationed at the checkpoint.

“The fighting lasted for 20 minutes. No one from our side was harmed. We withdrew before junta reinforcements arrived”, said Zee Gwat, the leader of the Bagan Ogre Force-PDF, one of the resistance forces involved in the attack.

He also said that the attack had injured four junta soldiers, including a lieutenant.

After the attack on the checkpoint, junta troops burnt down all of Kwat Thit Ward which is near to the checkpoint in Depayin Township.

The attack on the checkpoint was carried out by the Bagan Ogre Force-PDF, the Tabayin People’s Defense Force, the Federal Column Without Borders, the Yangyiaung People’s Defense Force and the Nyaung-U District Battalion 5/company -2 (Yebaw Nyi Naung).
