Five people, including a six-year-old girl were killed by junta artillery fire in Kinn and Kankyiyat villages, in Myaing Township, Magway Region on 29 October.

The junta started firing artillery from Hponekan Pyu Saw Htee Village in Myaing Township at 1:00 p.m. on 29 October.

An 80mm mortar shell landed on Kinn Village killing 60-year-old Daw Aye Sint, 40-year-old U Soe Tin Oo and fatally wounding his six-year-old daughter.

"The child from Kinn Village was just six years old. Her father passed away immediately, and the child was rushed to the hospital, where she also passed away”, said a villager from Kinn Village.

A shell also hit the compound of the monastery in nearby Kankyiyat Village killing two novice monks and injuring six other people.

“The two [killed] novice monks were aged 12 and 13. Six local people who were visiting the monastery also sustained injuries”, said a villager from Kankyiyat Village.

According to locals as well as frequently firing artillery into neighbouring villages, the junta troops stationed at Hponekan Pyu Saw Htee Village also loot from the surrounding villages, commit arson and shoot at villagers.

A member of the Myaing People's Defence Team said that junta soldiers and members of the junta-aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia who killed, attacked and terrorized villagers must be held accountable for their actions.
