Junta appointed village head wounded

A local village head in Pulaw Township of Tanintharyi Region was shot and wounded on 14 August.

A local of Lakku village said, “The incident occurred around 10 pm. We heard two gun shots, and it was possibly from a homemade hunting gun and very loud. A midwife managed to call an emergency car. U Thet Naing, the village head, was taken to the hospital, and he recovered.”

The victim was hit by 8 shots in total—two in the neck, 4 in the shoulders and 2 in the back.

The village head was also attacked by an improvised bomb at his house on 5 July, and then he reportedly submitted his resignation although he is still regarded as the village administrator.
