IDPs from Putao Township return home

In Kachin State, internally displaced people (IDPs) from Putao Township, who fled to Myitkyina Township because of fighting, returned to their homes on the afternoon of Wednesday 30 March, according to aid groups.

The aid groups helped 400 IDPs from 200 households who had fled from Sumpiam, Lonsharyang, and PhatMar village tracts to return home.

They had fled 330km south, from Putao Township to the Kachin capital of Myitkyina, where they lived in the Kachin National Manau Park.

Now there is no longer any fighting in Putao Township, so the IDPs were able to return home following negotiations between the Kachin State-based Myitkyina Christian Council (MCC), the Kachin Peace Talk Creation Group (PCG), the Kachin National Consultative Assembly (WMR); and the Military Council, on 21 March.
