A local official in an IDP camp told Mizzima that more than 80 villages have been forced to flee from their homes due to the military junta's deployment in the Wanmatu IDP camp in Mindat Township, Chin State.

“Now that the military council deployed to the IDP camp yesterday, IDPs do not stay in twelve IDP Camps recognized by our IDPs Committee now. As the military council arrested IDPs if they found them, all IDPs had fled from villages, the IDP Camp was ruined. They are getting into trouble,” he said.

"300 or so people were allowed to stay with restriction in some villages that seem to be safe, so thousands of people could be allowed to stay in each village. Some IDPs are still fleeing to other villages that are too far away by crossing the border," he said.

The average of IDPs in 12 camps in over 80 villages in Mindat and vicinity is 18,000 and a few IDPs still live in the rest of the villages, according to a local source.

"In previous days, there was fighting in Chaungzon near the Payar Sakhan, so the troops gradually moved up from there, and the Chinland Defense Force (CDF) was in retreat. There was no heavy artillery fire yesterday and today (June 11). The soldiers are trying to take control of the villages. IDPs are now separated and have difficulty for food and shelter,” said the source.

There was a little fight in Shwe Aung Thar village yesterday on June 10, but no fighting took place on June 11 due to the withdrawal of CDF-Mindat troops because they were outnumbered.

Fighting between the two sides, including a crackdown on the IDP camps, began on June 6 and lasted until June 9. The situation is currently calm, according to local people.

The military junta has used artillery and air attacks, including the use of drones suspected of deploying chemical weapons.
