Internally displaced people (IDP) are picking up the pieces after Cyclone Hamoon’s winds and rain struck parts of Myanmar leading to the destruction of homes in Thantalang township, Chin State.

According to an official from the Thantalang Placement Affairs Committee (TPAC), on 24 October, strong winds affected Thantalang, causing damage to approximately 10 houses in the Bong Kwar IDP Camp.

He mentioned that the houses in the camp are not structurally sturdy as they are constructed with awnings. Within the camp, there are over 120 houses, accommodating children who have escaped conflict. The camp is home to approximately 500 IDPs, including women and some with disabilities.

The situation calls for urgent provision of food, water, and medical supplies.

The TPAC official said, "We are currently in the process of gathering comprehensive information on the ground. We help them as much as we can."

Cyclone Hamoon, originating in the Bay of Bengal and active from 22 October to 25 October, resulted in heavy rainfall and strong winds affecting various regions of Myanmar. On the morning of 25 October, Cyclone Hamoon made landfall on the coast of Bangladesh and transitioned into an inland storm as it entered the Indian state of Mizoram, gradually weakening in intensity.
