Hundreds of construction workers on Tuesday protested at a worksite in the compound of the old headquarters building of Myanma Railways in Yangon.

The workers at the worksite in Pabedan Township, Yangon, have demanded the full payment of wages, including social security benefits provided by the state.

Some other demands of the workers are: to make social security payments, to install workplace safety equipment at the worksite, and overtime pay.

At the time of writing, three representatives of the employer, six representatives of the workers and officials from the relevant ministries are holding discussions to resolve the issue.

It is reported that social security payments from the government will be paid within two weeks.
